Done deal for Eintracht Frankfurt as the German club replace Filip Kostic with the signing of another longstanding West Ham target.

West Ham had been heavily linked with a move for Serbian assist king Kostic for much of the summer (Sky Sports).

The left-sided star, who shone against West Ham in last season’s Europa League, shares the same agent as £35m Hammers signing Gianluca Scamacca.

And so hopes were high West Ham might be able to get their man.

David Moyes is looking to strengthen the left side of his Hammers squad.

Kostic has been operating as a left wingback for Frankfurt with great success but can also play as a left-back and in a more dedicated attacking role.

In the end, though, as West Ham fans know only too well, Kostic chose to join Italian giants Juventus.

Since then Moyes has signed Maxwel Cornet from Burnley for £17.5m.

And reports abound the Scot is still desperately looking to bring in a new left-back too.

One left sided fullback consistently linked with a move to West Ham for a while now has been Luca Pellegrini.

And over the last couple of months Calcio Mercato, Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport have all claimed the Hammers had made a firm move to try and sign the 23-year-old Italian.

Gazzetta dello Sport even claimed the Hammers had met Pellegrini’s agent, Vincenzo Raiola, about a potential move to bring him to east London from Turin.

But after missing out on Kostic, the Hammers won’t be signing Pellegrini either.

Frankfurt confirmed the signing of the alleged Moyes target on a season-long loan in an announcement on their official website last night.

In his unveiling, Frankfurt state Pellegrini’s strengths as ‘high quality on the ball, intensity and game intelligence’.

And the club’s sport director Markus Krösche clearly shares West Ham’s admiration for Pellegrini’s versatility.

“Luca Pellegrini can fill both defensive positions on the left flank – both in front of a three-man defence and one position deeper in a four-man defence,” Krösche said.

“In doing so, he makes us even more variable in terms of structure and defence and generally increases our flexibility.”

Pellegrini was very much identified as a quality young player by Moyes and Rob Newman. But it looks like a case of another one bites the dust for the Hammers.

West Ham have also reportedly missed out on German left-back David Raum this summer.

Moyes is now being heavily linked with moves for Stuttgart and Croatia star Borna Sosa and another German, Monaco’s Ismail Jakobs.
