David Moyes has offered a dismal West Ham transfer update as the club’s relegation rivals launch a £200m spending spree.

With the January transfer window open for business and West Ham sitting outside the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference, many fans and pundits feel the club must strengthen this month to avoid a potential disaster.

Moyes was backed with £170m as he signed eight players in the summer. That took his spending in the last two summers to a whopping £235m.

But there is no hiding the fact the Hammers are short in several key areas, particularly at fullback and up front.

The team’s goalscoring issues are best highlighted by the fact West Ham have scored only 15 league goals all season – one of the worst records in the top flight.

Many fans were disappointed when Moyes told talkSPORT recently that he would not be looking to sign players in the winter window.

“Nah, I don’t think we will,” was Moyes’ blunt response on talkSPORT when asked if West Ham will strengthen during the window.

There was relief last week when Moyes appeared to change his stance, saying he would now look to be active.

West Ham have been linked with the likes of Youssef En-Nesyri and Terem Moffi since.

But now Moyes has offered a dismal West Ham transfer update as our relegation rivals launch a £200m spending spree.

Speaking in his press conference before the six-pointers against Wolves and Everton, the Scot says ‘we’re going with what we’ve got’.

“Nothing at the moment,” Moyes said when asked about January signings (whufc.com).

“We said in the summer we said we’d do most of our business then.

We might do something in January if the right player is there but at the moment we’re going with what we’ve got.”

What a ridiculous, stubborn outlook. Moyes is absolutely dicing with danger and has allowed West Ham to sleepwalk into the thick of a season-long relegation battle.

The gap between the Hammers and midtable alone is a whopping 10 points.

To make matters worse nearly all of West Ham’s relegation rivals from Aston Villa in 11th all the way down to rock bottom Southampton are making signings bar Everton.

All of those clubs have either made signings, are in the process of making signings or their managers have signalled their intent to be seriously active.

Wolves alone are on the verge of completing deals which could take their January spending past the £70m mark.

Leeds are on the cusp of breaking their transfer record. Southampton have signed the classy attacking star Mislav Orsic, Patrick Vieira is adamant he has players lined up to come in and all the other clubs bar the Toffees are active.

We hope you know what you are doing David. Fans can only hope Moyes is playing things down to do his business on the quiet.
