Emmanuel Longelo has hinted that he didn’t get the chances that he deserved at West Ham United before he joined Birmingham City.
The 22-year-old was on loan with Birmingham from West Ham before making his move to St Andrew’s a permanent one in the January transfer window.

It is believed that the Hammers sold the young left-back for just £400k.
At the time it seemed like a crazy decision. Longelo was, and still is, a real talent. He impressed when playing for the senior team in the Europa League at the end of 2021.
So why did the Hammers allow the young left-back to leave the London Stadium?

It seems as though the main reason for the 22-year-old’s exit was that his path to the first-team just had too many obstacles to hurdle.
Longelo spoke exclusively to The Athletic, and highlighted how he believes that he deserved more chances at West Ham:
“I thought I’d done enough to be around the squad. But unfortunately, it didn’t happen. It hurt a lot because I started asking myself, ‘What more do I need to do?’.”
The Birmingham loanee is incredibly dynamic, is absolutely rapid and is a very solid defender. He’s pretty good going forward as well.
In my opinion, West Ham will end up regretting allowing Emmanuel Longelo to leave the London Stadium permanently.
We have Emerson Palmieri now but wouldn’t it have been great to have Longelo really pushing the Italian for his place.
