West Ham United sold a promising young striker to a side who are now in the Premier League back in 2021, but how has he got on since?

David Moyes has had some real bad luck with signing strikers since returning to the London Stadium to take over as West Ham boss, but he hasn’t had quite as much trouble selling them.

Nearly three years ago now, the Hammers manager allowed one of our young forwards to leave the London Stadium in order to join now Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

Xande Silva was highly thought of when he arrived at the London Stadium from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2018 for around £3.3 million (talkSPORT).

He really impressed for the youth teams, but never made any kind if impact at all for the senior side. And selling him now looks like a really good decision from Moyes…

West Ham made right decision to sell striker to Premier League club

Moyes sold Silva, 26, to Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2021 for around £200,000, and it appears as though the Scot got the decision to move the striker on absolutely correct.

The Portuguese forward really struggled to impress at the City Ground, and he failed to score a single goal in 10 games for Forest (Transfermarkt).

Silva then joined French side Dijon in the summer of 2022, before moving on to the MLS to link up with Atlanta United, and he has scored only four goals over the last two years.

He is clearly not good enough to make it at the highest level, so I’m glad that we got rid of him when we did. If he is struggling to establish himself in the MLS, there is no way that he would have done anything of note with West Ham in the Premier League.

It’s just a shame that we wasted £3.3 million on bringing him to the club six years ago. Hopefully we don’t make any bad errors of judgement like that again in the transfer market.
