Newcastle striker Callum Wilson has explained how he always admired West Ham United as a club, from a very young age.

Wilson has enjoyed a fantastic record against West Ham throughout the years, and the Newcastle hitman even posted a tweet alluding to that last year.

The 30-year-old striker has bagged nine goals in 11 combined appearances for Bournemouth and Newcastle against the Hammers (Transfermarkt).

West Ham have actually been linked with signing Wilson on numerous occasions.

And things could have turned out very different, had the Hammers managed to bring him to the London Stadium at some point over the past few years.

It certainly could have been possible. Wilson seemingly viewed West Ham in a great light…

The 30-year-old has been with Newcastle for two seasons now, and despite a few injuries, he’s done the business for them.

Wilson has 23 goals in 50 games for the Toon to his name (Transfermarkt).

West Ham could really have done with that kind of output in front of goal over the past two years.

And it seems as though Wilson could easily have been a Hammers player at some point, had we tried harder to sign him. He told the Footballer’s Football Podcast just how highly he regards West Ham:

For me, when you talk about Newcastle and West Ham. I watched Green Street back in the day so I knew it would be a good atmosphere. The first time at Upton Park I was buzzing to be there because I knew the history from the film. Newcastle was the same because of the film Goal, those were films I watched and they were about the two football clubs we’re talking about and it was only positive things in thinking what a club to play for, for both of them to be honest. The West Ham fans were so passionate in the film and in Goal it shows you the stadium and things like that.

That’s nice to hear, aside from his reference to Green Street…what an awful film that was!!

Wilson is a top-class centre-forward, and it’s a shame that injuries have wreaked havoc with his career.

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson has been a real problem for West Ham throughout the years.

If only we had signed him from Coventry instead of Bournemouth all those years ago. He would now be classed as a Hammers fan favourite at the London Stadium, rather than somewhat of a bogeyman!
