Callum Wilson is set to snub West Ham in favour of joining Newcastle, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Sky Sports claimed in July that Hammers boss David Moyes wants to bring the 28-year-old Bournemouth hitman to the London Stadium this summer.

It seems as though Magpies manager Steve Bruce has the upper hand, however.

The Daily Mail claims that Wilson is keen to move to St James’ Park. And movement is expected within the next 48 hours.

West Ham desperately need to sign a new striker this summer. So missing out to Newcastle on Wilson will be a real blow for the east London outfit.

It must be pointed out, however, that his £20 million price-tag (Sky Sports) made a move to the London Stadium very unlikely anyway.

Stats

Wilson’s record wasn’t exactly breathtaking last season, with only nine goals to his name in 39 games for the Cherries (Transfermarkt).

The 28-year-old was in superb form for Bournemouth the season before, however. He racked up 15 goals and 10 assists in 33 games for the south coast outfit (Transfermarkt).

He may not be the most popular of figures in east London. But he might have done a job for the Hammers.

As things stand, however, it seems as though Newcastle have a huge advantage over West Ham in the race for Wilson’s signature.
