West Ham United will be taking huge backwards step if James Ward-Prowse is signed to replace Declan Rice.
James Ward-Prowse could be signed by West Ham, if Declan Rice is sold this summer.

Rice is being heavily linked with a move to Arsenal before the start of next season.
Most West Ham fans have made peace with the fact that Dec will be leaving this summer. It’s a hard thought to process. However, if Moyes gets his recruitment spot on, there’s no reason why we can’t improve as a team after the 24-year-old’s exit.
It seems like the Scot could be about to head down the wrong path completely though…

It’s not like the 28-year-old Saints ace wouldn’t be a good addition for the Hammers. He certainly would be.
However, if he is the only central midfielder signed when Rice leaves, we will have big problems as a club.
Moyes should be looking to sign two central midfielders to replace Rice from these names – Ibrahim Sangare, Khephren Thuram, Seko Fofana, Teun Koopmeiners and Romeo Lavia in my opinion.

Don’t get me wrong, Ward-Prowse is a very good footballer. We shouldn’t be splashing out £50 million on him though, and expect him to be a like-for-like replacement for Rice – he’s a completely different player to the 41-capped England international.
West Ham should be able to improve as a team if Moyes signs two of the five names mentioned above. And he should be able to do that for under £100 million as well.
However, signing James Ward-Prowse to replace Declan Rice will be evidence that the owners have absolutely no ambition to take us forward in my view.
