West Ham really struggled vs Wolves with many of our star players looking jaded and nowhere near their best.

The Hammers really struggled to get anything going at Molineux and Wolves were more than deserving of their 1-0 win in the end.

The performance was so unlike the new and improved West Ham.

We have been absolutely magnificent so far this season, so I don’t want to dig anyone out or criticise players for poor performances.

Something that has to be noted is how jaded a few of our players looked though.

None more so than big Tomas Soucek. The 26-year-old Czech ace wasn’t at the races yesterday and it seems really clear and obvious to see that he needs a rest.

West Ham display vs Wolves proves that a change is needed

One bright spark yesterday was the display of Manuel Lanzini when he came on in the second-half.

We had far more control with the Argentinian in the middle of the park.

We think that Moyes must start Manu not only against Rapid Vienna on Thursday night but also against Manchester City next weekend.

That would enable him to take Soucek out of the firing line for a couple of games.

The former Slavia Prague ace has played every Premier League for West Ham this season and only missed 11 minutes action after suffering a severe head injury away at Everton (Premier League website).

He is an absolute warrior and wants to play every game. Since moving to the London Stadium just under two years ago for £18 million (WHUFC.com), Soucek has been one of our best and most consistent players.

It’s surely time for him to rest for a week or so though.

Moyes may not feel like the Czech ace needs a rest, however. And it must be said that if Soucek isn’t playing, West Ham instantly become weaker when defending and attacking set-pieces.

So perhaps Moyes could could play three central midfielders with Lanzini alongside Rice and Soucek, whilst dropping one of Pablo Fornals, Said Benrahma or Jarrod Bowen.

Either way, Lanzini did enough yesterday to earn his spot in the starting XI.

West Ham have so many games coming thick and fast over the next six weeks or so and Moyes must be prepared to rotate his squad.

Manu is one of the freshest players we have at the moment.

And he absolutely must be given a chance to impress once again over our next few games.
