West Ham United man Ben Johnson not good enough for the Premier League after Brighton shocker, it’s as simple as that.

The Hammers headed to the south coast today trying to end our 11-year hoodoo against Brighton.

West Ham hadn’t beaten the Seagulls since 2012, and in the first-half it seemed like that record was playing heavily on the players’ minds.

We were an absolute shambles, thanks in no small part to the negative way in which David Moyes set up his team. 24% possession and 69 completed passes inside the first-half tells us all we need to know.

There was one West Ham player who was particularly bad though…

Ben Johnson was awful for West Ham against Brighton

The right-back just looked completely out of place against the Seagulls today.

In my opinion, he is just not good enough for the Premier League – it really is as simple as that.

His defending during the build up to Brighton’s penalty was absolutely abysmal. The 23-year-old allowed the ball to float over his head rather than try to intercept it mid-air, or drop back tight to Kaoru Mitoma.

But it wasn’t his first terrible error.

Just 10 minutes before he couldn’t get his feet sorted out quick enough and just allowed the ball to roll into Mitoma’s path.

Aside from his defensive frailties, Johnson is really poor going forward as well.

His final ball is atrocious and he seems to lack the know-how and nouse regarding when to make runs and where to make them.

Ben Johnson had a bright future at West Ham when he burst onto the scene a few years ago. In my opinion though, he’s not good enough at the very highest level and certainly not when he’s playing in the right-back position.
