West Ham United could now face competition from Newcastle for the signing of one of our key striker targets in the January transfer window.

David Moyes is desperate for reinforcements in the January transfer window but the West Ham boss isn’t the only man in that situation, with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe after new signings of his own.

The signing of a new striker features right at the very top of Moyes’s wish-list. One man believed to be a firm Hammers target is Dominic Solanke of Bournemouth, with Moyes believed to be pushing really hard to bring him to the London Stadium.

However, his £50 million price-tag is making a January window deal really difficult (Daily Mail), and now West Ham face another huge problem.

Newcastle have made an enquiry for the 26-year-old Bournemouth hitman, according to a report from the Telegraph, and that could well be curtains for the Hammers…

Newcastle swoop in for January transfer window deal

I firmly believe that Solanke would be the perfect man for Moyes’s system at West Ham. But we will not be able to compete with the Toon for his signature.

We all know that the Magpies possess far greater spending power than we do, and if Howe really wants Solanke, he will no doubt get him in the end.

Described as an ‘outstanding’ striker by Paul Merson (Sportskeeda), Solanke has been in truly sensational form this season.

He has 12 goals in 19 Premier League games to his name. He’s bagged 47 league goals since the start of the 2021/22 campaign – a really fine return (Transfermarkt).

Solanke is currently sitting behind only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland in the Premier League goalscoring charts this term, and that in itself tells us all we need to know about his quality.

The striker always runs the channels and occupies opposing defenders – something that makes him the perfect long-term Michail Antonio replacement at West Ham.

However, it seems like West Ham could miss out on Solanke to Newcastle in the January transfer window, and that would be a real shame.
