Gianluca Scamacca scored his first ever goal for Italy last night, during his side’s clash with England at Wembley Stadium.
West Ham signed Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo in the summer of 2022 for around £35 million (Sky Sports). However, he was moved on to Atalanta a couple of months ago after a nightmare spell at the London Stadium, and he started for Italy against England last night.

Hammers boss David Moyes was clearly never a fan of Scamacca – he just didn’t suit the way that we played, and bagged only eight goals in 27 games before being shipped back to his homeland (Transfermarkt).
I always thought that the 6ft 5in centre-forward was a very good player, but he was painfully ill-suited to Moyes’s system.
It begs the question – why on earth did the Scot sign him in the first place? A completely and utterly baffling signing if you ask me – the kind that we won’t be making anymore with Tim Steidten on board.

Gianluca Scamacca scores for Italy against England
The Three Lions won the match at Wembley Stadium 3-1 in the end, so the 24-year-old’s strike counted for little.
The thing is, Scamacca bagging seemed to be written in the stars as soon as we all saw his name in the Italian starting XI!
And some West Ham fans took to Twitter last night, all saying the same thing about our former striker’s goal:
Goal for Italy means nothing in the grand scheme of things
It was always going to happen wasn’t it! But let’s not skew the facts – he was pretty poor on the whole for Italy against England last night.
He really was poor. The 24-year-old didn’t put in much of a shift and failed to run the channels – something that we witnessed time and time again when he was at the London Stadium.
It’s very clear to me why he failed at West Ham. We play a counter attacking system that relies on an all-action number nine – someone who runs the channels and creates space for his teammates. The former Sassuolo striker was never suited to playing that role and he still isn’t.
Gianluca Scamacca scoring during the England vs Italy clash last night doesn’t change that fact.
That said, him bagging a goal for the Italians last night was so predictable wasn’t it!
