The 24-year-old only joined the Hammers last summer but the truth of the matter is that he was painfully ill-suited to the system deployed by David Moyes and Premier League football in general.

It’s a real shame that things didn’t work out for the Italian at the London Stadium, because there is definitely a player in there somewhere.
I’m sure he’ll be much more suited to the Atalanta system – one where Gian Piero Gasperini usually plays with two up front…
Atalanta striker Gianluca Scamacca makes first start for new club
The Italian hitman was named in Gasperini’s starting XI for the first time since he left the Hammers.
Atalanta beat Monza 3-0 and moved up to third spot in Serie A in the process.

Scamacca bagged two goals for his new club as well. He nearly had a hat-trick, but his third goal was ruled out by VAR.

The same thing happened when we sold Sebastien Haller to Ajax in January 2021.
However, what we have to remember is that neither Scamacca or Haller were suited to our playing style, so if they go on to succeed with their new clubs, then good luck to them – it’s nothing to do with us anymore.
