West Ham United are being really praised in the German media for completing a truly top-class signing.
David Moyes has made one signing in particular for West Ham that has caught the attention of the media on the continent.
The Hammers boss brought some proper players to the London Stadium in the summer. Mohammed Kudus has garnered most of the headlines, but it’s a another player who is the envy of some of Europe’s biggest clubs it seems.
Moyes brought Edson Alvarez to the London Stadium for around £35 million in the summer (Daily Mail), having beaten the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich to his signature.
What a player we’ve got on our hands. The 26-year-old has more than made up for Declan Rice’s exit, and it could be argued that he’s our most important player now.
Alvarez is the glue that holds this West Ham team together, and he has been in sensational form recently. His stunning performances have not gone unnoticed outside of the London Stadium…
West Ham lauded for £35 million signing
Deutsche Welle (print edition January 15th, page 54) reckon that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have made a ‘big error’ by not signing Alvarez.
They suggested that both Bundesliga clubs were keen to sign the Mexico international but they were not 100% convinced on him.
That left the door open for West Ham and Moyes to swoop in and grasp the opportunity to sign Alvarez with both hands.
In 17 Premier League games for the Hammers this season, he has averaged 2.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 2.7 clearances per game. The 26-year-old has made 38.6 passes per match and has recorded a completion rate of 86.1% (Who Scored).
Edson Alvarez has already established himself as a vitally important player for us, and we really miss him when he doesn’t play.
West Ham obviously secured a real coup by signing the Mexican last summer, and I reckon he’ll go on to become a proper legend at the London Stadium.
