Michail Antonio has absolutely raved about a player West Ham United sold for peanuts last year.

West Ham striker Michail Antonio is currently out injured, after suffering a knee problem whilst playing for Jamaica in November, and then he experienced a setback during training earlier this week.

During his lay-off, the 33-year-old Hammers forward has been keeping up appearances on the Footballer’s Football Podcast with his sidekick Callum Wilson.

As harsh as this may sound, it’s been about all he’s been good for this season. Antonio has been woeful whenever he’s played for West Ham, and he’ll surely not be anywhere near David Moyes‘ starting XI when he returns.

However, this isn’t about Antonio. The Hammers hitman has been speaking about Pierre Ekwah – a player who we sold to Sunderland this time last year for peanuts, and he recently admitted that he’s improved as a player at the Stadium of Light.

The midfielder is clearly turning heads at his former club with his performances for Sunderland this season…

Michail Antonio praises former West Ham ace

The 21-year-old has been in fine form for the Black Cats so far this season, and has played a key role in their rise up to sixth in the Championship table this season.

He really has been a standout performer for the Wearside outfit, but he didn’t have his best game against Newcastle on Saturday.

Antonio raved about Ekwah, but highlighted the mistake he made against the Toon in the FA Cup clash:

“My boy Pierre, I was devastated for him. He’s been on fire this year but he lost the ball in his box and it’s another goal.”

The Sunderland midfielder wasn’t anywhere near his best in the FA Cup clash on Saturday, but that was an exception from the norm for him this season.

I still feel like the Hammers gave up on the young Frenchman too soon. I truly believe that he’ll go on to succeed at the very highest level of the game. Only time will tell regarding that though I suppose.

Michail Antonio praised his former West Ham teammate by suggesting that he’s been on fire this term. He’s right, but the Sunderland star will be gutted that couldn’t keep up that form for his side’s biggest game of the season five days ago.
