West Ham ace with just one Premier League minute this term has just made it very clear he’s starting vs Olympiacos

One West Ham United player who’s been given just one minute in the Premier League this season will be starting against Olympiacos tonight it seems.

Olympiacos play host to West Ham in the match-day three Europa League Group A clash tonight out in Athens.

Hammers boss David Moyes will be desperate for his side to record a win, and to take total control of our group in the process.

The Scot has a full strength squad to choose from aside from one player, with Vladimir Coufal being left at home because of a slight knock.

And it seems as though one player who’s only been seen once in the Premier League this season will be handed a start out in Greece – Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Rarely seen West Ham ace seems primed to start vs Olympiacos

Mavropanos, 25, addressed the media in his homeland last night, ahead of our crucial Group A clash with Olympiacos this evening.

The Greek ace discussed how excited he is at the prospect of playing back in his home country, and dropped a huge hint that he will start tonight’s match against the Greek giants, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“It’s a good feeling to come back home and play against a good team like Olympiacos. It’s a good feeling to be back at home, but when the referee blows his whistle to start the game, then I will be ready. We always follow the plan of the coach. We have a good team and our set pieces are one of the parts of the game that we want to make goals from. We’ve seen it in a couple of games that we can do this and I think this is going to be one of the parts we need to utilise tomorrow. The game against Aston Villa, we didn’t get the result that we wanted. But the schedule in English football is really busy and I think, after the game, you have to start focusing on the next one really quickly. We are ready for this game against Olympiacos. We are well prepared.”

That sounds to me like a man who is quite obviously starting tonight.

If he is included in Moyes’s starting XI, as is expected, it will be his third consecutive Europa League start for the Hammers.

However, he’s only played one minute in the Premier League (Transfermarkt) – a late substitute appearance at home to Sheffield United at the end of last month.

Mavropanos has looked like the real deal every time he has played in Europe, and it’s very clear that he is now really pushing Nayef Aguerd for a place in Moyes’s Premier League starting lineup.

A top-class performance for West Ham against Olympiacos tonight may well be enough for him to get a start against Everton at the London Stadium on Sunday.
