West Ham take on Olympiacos in the Europa League out in Greece tonight, and David Moyes has left one key player at home.

David Moyes has guided his West Ham side to real success on the continent over the past couple of years, and he’ll be looking to carry that on in the Europa League this season.

The Hammers reached the semi-final of the Europa League in 2022 and then won the Europa Conference League at the end of last season – our first major trophy since 1980.

We have begun the 2023/24 European campaign brilliantly as well, with two wins from two games so far. However, we will be severely tested tonight out in Athens.

Olympiacos are a highly experienced European team. The atmosphere inside The Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium is hostile to say the least, and their recent derby clash with Panathinaikos was abandoned after a firework struck one of the visiting players in the head.

Moyes needs every single one of his players to be on top form. Unfortunately for the Scot though, he’ll be without one of his key men…

Key West Ham player to miss Olympiacos game

Moyes addressed the media last night, ahead of our huge Europa League clash with the Greek giants tonight.

And the Scot responded when asked if he had any injury concerns for tonight’s game, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“The only one who hasn’t travelled is Vladi. He was just a bit tight, so I left him at home.”

Coufal has been in superb form this season, so having him unavailable tonight out in Greece is a very big blow indeed for the Hammers.

Vlad has played all nine Premier League games for West Ham this season, bagging four assists in the process.

During those outings, he has averaged 2.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per match (Who Scored).

The 31-year-old has made vast improvements from last season and looks much more like his old self now. He is someone Moyes can always rely on, especially in tough European away games.

So West Ham being unable to call upon Coufal for our clash with Olympiacos is definitely a major blow as far as I’m concerned.
