Thilo Kehrer has been speaking to reporters about the West Ham United squad and competition for places.

West Ham signed Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022 for around £10 million (Sky Sports).

The versatile 27-year-old Hammers defender has struggled for game-time under David Moyes so far this season, but the club hinted yesterday that he could be set for a start out in Germany against Freiburg in the Europa League tonight.

On his day, Kehrer is an extremely accomplished player. He has pace in abundance, is an incredibly tenacious tackler and plays with real heart and passion. However, he can be somewhat rash at times, and his decision making is questionable to say the least.

That doesn’t mean that he’s not deserving of a start tonight to prove himself though. And his comments to the media prove that he’s exactly the kind of player we want at the London Stadium…

Thilo Kehrer says exactly what the West Ham fans want to hear

The Germany international was speaking to reporters last night ahead of our Europa League clash with Freiburg.

And Kehrer responded when asked about the strong competition for places right now at the London Stadium, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“I would call it a very balanced squad. We have a chemistry that encourages competition in a very healthy way. Everyone has their own qualities that they try to bring to the team, and the team can profit from each of us in that regard. I would call it a pretty special group in that regard.”

How refreshing is that to hear from the German! He is clearly very much unfancied by Moyes right now but is approaching it as a challenge rather than an afront from the Scot.

So often these days, players seem to believe that they’re entitled to be playing week-in, week-out.

Thilo Kehrer is obviously an exception to that rule, and it’s brilliant to hear one of our players talking like that.

It’s yet another example of just how unified the Hammers are as a group right now.
