Tomas Soucek has made a brutally honest admission about the way he was feeling at West Ham United last season.
West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek has made a fine start to the 2023/24 campaign with three goals to his name already.

The 28-year-old Hammers ace has experienced a tough last two seasons, due to the fact that he had to sacrifice his forward runs in order to accommodate Declan Rice’s new role.

David Moyes will surely now admit that he was wrong to change the Czech Republic international’s role two seasons ago – the experiment clearly didn’t work, especially last term.
Now it seems as though we have our old Soucek back. However, it seems as though Moyes wasn’t entirely to blame for the former Slavia Prague midfielder’s poor form last season…
West Ham star Tomas Soucek makes remarkable admission
The 28-year-old midfielder has been speaking to The Athletic about all things West Ham.
And Soucek suggested that his poor form last season was down to his lack of motivation:

“I am happy that I got on the scoresheet again and if Alisson [the Liverpool goalkeeper] didn’t save my shot I could be on four goals. I feel very good. Maybe last season I didn’t feel right, didn’t feel that motivated, but this season I feel great. We have a very strong squad, we’re in four competitions and I just hope this season can be even better than last season.”
That really is a stunningly honest admission to make from the Czech ace, and if you would have told me one West Ham player made those comments, I would never have guessed that it was Soucek.
The Czech Republic international gives absolutely everything for the shirt even when he is going through a bad patch of form, and he trains harder than anyone else as well.
The beauty of Tomas Soucek this season is that he is scoring goals as well as contributing defensively – just like he was during the 2020/21 season.
Let’s hope that he continues his fine form throughout the entire campaign.
