When Mark Noble retired at the end of last season everyone at West Ham knew he would be sorely missed.
But none of us – besides perhaps David Moyes and his teammates – probably realised just how much.
Speaking in his new Hammers News column, terrace legend Cass Pennant believes the loss of Noble in the West Ham changing room has been one of the fundamental reasons for our Premier League struggles this season.
We called for Noble to head straight for the West Ham dressing room when he returned to the club as sporting director at the start of the year.

It seems he did just that. And Hammers fans will have seen footage of Noble in and around the first team here and there since his return.

In the latest Tunnel Cam footage from West Ham, manager Moyes and sporting director Noble can be seen taking counsel as they head out for the second half.

The duo have huge respect and admiration for one another. And they can be seen deep in conversation as they head down the tunnel towards the pitch for the second half of West Ham’s 2-2 fightback against the Gunners.
West Ham fans would dearly love to earwig that particular conversation.
And it can be no bad thing that Noble is in and around the first team during matchdays.
It would be too easy to suggest Noble’s presence had an impact on the drastically improved performance for 70 minutes against the league leaders.
But we know the manager misses his influence as he has mentioned several times this season. And the players do too with captain Declan Rice even feeling Noble could still have done a job for the team this term.
