Tony Cascarino has hit out in a brilliant rant defending exciting West Ham after accusations being aimed at the team.

The obsession with possession statistics means West Ham rarely get the credit they deserve from the wider football media.

Especially in a Premier League full of Pep Guardiola disciples and copycats.

Hammers boss David Moyes reminded the gathered press that football is as much about defending well as it is attacking following the 2-0 victory at Arsenal.

But there are also a large section of West Ham fans who want a more modern, progressive and attack-minded approach.

Many Hammers supporters believe Moyes has the players at his disposal to play a more aggressively attacking and dominant style.

Jamie Carragher recently told West Ham fans they cannot have their cake and eat it.

That’s despite sides like Brighton, Villa and Spurs – as well as European outfits like Bayer Leverkusen – proving you can combine substance with style.

Moyes is accused of playing a defensive, negative brand of football at times.

Cascarino defends exciting West Ham

But Tony Cascarino has hit out in a brilliant rant defending exciting West Ham after those accusations.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Millwall and Chelsea star Cascarino was full of praise for the Hammers.

And he feels Moyes deserves a new deal to continue building his ‘improving’ team.

“The summer before the signings didn’t work out when they bought (Gianluca) Scamacca and other players. Didn’t work out,” Cascarino said.

‘They will go way past that this year’

“They’ve brought in (Mohammed) Kudus who has got six Premier League goals this season, (Tomas) Soucek has got five – the midfielder that really struggled last season – has got five goals so far this year.

“Obviously (Jarrod) Bowen is back to his best, 11 goals this season. (Lucas) Paqueta’s got a couple but creates forever problems for the opposition.

“They’ve got 33 goals now this season. So anyone who thinks they’re a boring, dull team, they’re not, West Ham. They’re an improving side because they’ve got 33 goals, that’s pretty decent. Last year they got 42 in the whole Premier League season, they will go way past that this year without a doubt…

“I think David Moyes has got the best West Ham team he’s had.”

Cascarino also pointed out West Ham won nine of their last 12 games.
