West Ham United will have an option to sign Kalvin Phillips on a permanent deal from Manchester City in the summer.
Kalvin Phillips is believed to be closing in on a loan move to the London Stadium, and now Florian Plettenberg has provided an update regarding how much West Ham could potentially sign him for in the summer.
Hammers boss David Moyes has been chasing Phillips for quite some time now, but Fabrizio Romano suggested that the 28-year-old was actually a Tim Steidten signing.
The January transfer window has been a busy one for Moyes, Steidten and co, and if we manage to get the deal for Phillips over the line, we’ll be in great shape going forward.
However, we don’t want any repeats of when Jesse Lingard ripped it up with us for four months, only to return to Manchester United at the end of the season.

Having an option to buy the 28-year-old from Manchester City will be crucial, and it seems as though the Hammers transfer team have negotiated exactly that into the deal…but for how much?
How much West Ham must pay to sign Kalvin Phillips permanently
According to Plettenberg, the Hammers will have an option to sign the England international for £40 million in the summer.
That’s an awful lot of money to be spending on a 28-year-old, but it will be worth it in my opinion.
Phillips is a sensational player, and will compliment Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse perfectly in the middle of the park.
I feel like our midfield will have the perfect balance with the former Leeds United star on board, and £40 million will be a small price to pay for him, considering what he will undoubtedly bring to the side.
My only concern with the 28-year-old is his poor injury record – the England international has missed 236 days of action though injury since the start of the 2020/21 season.
So signing him will obviously come with some added risk. However, all transfers have some kind of risk involved, and the Kalvin Phillips to West Ham deal will be no different. If he remains injury free, he’ll be an outstanding signing for us.
