There is no panic with Pablo Fornals’ West Ham deal set to expire next year

West Ham United ace Pablo Fornals is currently frozen out of the team, and it must be getting to a point where he’s considering his future at the club.

The ex-Villarreal man, who turned 27 today, has hardly played under David Moyes for West Ham over the past few months.

Considering how important he has been to the Hammers over the past couple of years, there is clearly something wrong.

The Spaniard has only been handed three starts by Moyes in the Hammers’ last 14 Premier League games.

And in four of those 14 games, Moyes didn’t even bring him on off the bench. Fornals has been given just 284 minutes of action in the Premier League since we beat Fulham on October 9th (Transfermarkt).

Fornals has played just 28 minutes per game on average during those 10 matches where he has featured.

So should we be worried about Fornals’ future at the London Stadium?

West Ham have an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months (The Athletic), so we are in exactly the same position with Fornals as we are with Declan Rice.

The thing is, if Fornals continues to warm the bench, he will definitely have some questions that need answering come the summer, whoever is in charge at the London Stadium.

I feel like we’ve really missed the Spaniard since he’s been out the team, which makes his recent omissions even more baffling.

Let’s hope that we see Pablo Fornals playing more regularly for West Ham between now and the end of the season. Because whilst there is no immediate panic regarding his contract, we could well lose him in the summer.
