The curious case of West Ham United ace Pablo Fornals – there is clearly something very wrong with the Spaniard.

Fornals, 26, moved to the London Stadium from Villarreal in the summer of 2019 for around £25 million (The Telegraph).

The Spaniard has featured regularly for West Ham over the past three years or so, since David Moyes took over at the club for the second time in December 2019.

In fact, Fornals has made 159 appearances for the Hammers for a total of 10,425 minutes (Transfermarkt).

However, the ex-Villarreal man has hardly been given any game-time recently David Moyes, so what on earth going on?

The curious case of West Ham ace Pablo Fornals

The Spaniard has only been handed three starts by Moyes in the Hammers’ last 13 Premier League games.

And in four of those 13 games, Moyes didn’t even bring him on off the bench. Fornals has been given just 276 minutes of action in the Premier League since we beat Fulham on October 9th (Transfermarkt).

Average out over his nine appearances during that period, Fornals has played just 30 minutes per game.

So what’s the deal? Fornals always offers us something extra in the middle of the park with his impressive technical ability, incredible vision for a pass and his cool and composed nature when in possession of the football.

The 26-year-old’s work-rate and pressing from the front is also something that we really miss when he doesn’t play. Sure, he’s usually pretty ineffective when Moyes deploys him out on the left wing. But why is the Scot persisting in doing so?

More importantly though, why has Moyes not really been playing him at all over the past three months or so?

Something doesn’t seem right with Pablo Fornals at West Ham. And it will be interesting to see what happens with him in the summer, if he continues to get ignored by David Moyes. His contract at the London Stadium expires in the summer of 2024, so something will have to give either way pretty soon.
