Sunderland close in on West Ham fan Will Still

Sunderland have held positive talks with West Ham United managerial target Will Still, according to a report from the Telegraph.

West Ham have been linked with a move to appoint Hammers supporting Will Still in place of David Moyes for quite some time now (The Sun), but reports emerged last week that it was Sunderland who were making the first concrete move for the Reims manager.

And it seems as though the Black Cats are making real headway in their bid to replace Tony Mowbray with the 31-year-old.

Moyes is currently on really thin ice at the London Stadium, and poor results in our next two games would put him under extreme pressure.

Should the Scot be moved on, Still is someone who could replace him.

However, it seems like the 31-year-old may have to cut his teeth in England’s second tier first, before he secures a Premier League job…

Will Still could be Sunderland bound

The Reims boss has held positive talks with Sunderland about taking over at the Stadium of light, according to a report from the Guardian.

I actually think that a move to the Black Cats would be the ideal stepping stone. We could then see if he’s good enough to cut it in the English game, before taking an unnecessary risk on him.

The 31-year-old has done a fine job with Reims since taking over as manager at The Stade Auguste-Delaune in October 2022.

Reims are currently sitting in eighth spot in the Ligue 1 table, just four points adrift of the Champions League places, after Still guided his side to a mid-table finish last term following an incredible 18-game unbeaten run.

Still has deployed a highly entertaining style of football during his stint in charge of Reims, and that is what the majority of West Ham fans find really attractive about him.

His Reims side play with a real kind of intensity that is totally alien to the way in which Moyes has his team playing.

As mentioned earlier, I think that it’s too soon in his career for a move to take over at West Ham.

Will Still getting the Sunderland manager’s job will be really good for him, and if it does happen, the Hammers owners should be keeping a very close eye on how he does.
