Another English club could beat West Ham to Will Still appointment

Sunderland seemingly could be set to beat West Ham United to the appointment of talented young manager Will Still.

West Ham are believed to be big fans of Will Still, and he was recently spotted in the stands at the London Stadium during our win over Nottingham Forest, but Sunderland could now beat the East London outfit to the punch.

Hammers manager David Moyes is under real pressure, with large sections of the fanbase having turned on him recently due to the turgid football that he’s producing.

December will be a crucial month for West Ham. A run of wins will put us right in the mix for the top seven, whilst three or four defeats and Moyes will have the wolves knocking at the door.

If that latter scenario were to happen, current Reims boss Will Still is perhaps someone who the Hammers owners would consider.

However, with Sunderland having bullishly sacked Tony Mowbray, the 31-year-old Belgium-born coach could now be Wearside bound it seems…

West Ham could miss out on Will Still

According to a report from the Guardian, the Reims boss is on Sunderland’s shortlist to replace Tony Mowbray.

The 31-year-old has done a fine job with Reims since taking over as manager at The Stade Auguste-Delaune in October 2022.

Reims are currently sitting in fifth spot in the Ligue 1 table, after Still guided his side to a mid-table finish last term following an incredible 18-game unbeaten run.

Still has deployed a highly entertaining style of football during his stint in charge of Reims, and that is what the majority of West Ham fans find really attractive about him.

His Reims side play with a real kind of intensity that is totally alien to the way in which Moyes has his team playing.

The 31-year-old likes to implement a 4-2-3-1 system. He is very flexible and likes his team to build up from the back although he’s not averse to playing a counter attacking style either.

Still’s exploits with Reims have been described as ‘unbelievable’ by the Mirror. In my view, he has absolutely everything that the Hammers need whenever we move on from Moyes.

However, Sunderland could now pip West Ham in the race to appoint Will Still. In the long run though, it might not be a bad thing.

The 31-year-old will get a chance to cut his cloth in the English game for one or two seasons, and then we’ll really see what he’s all about.

And maybe the Hammers will then come knocking for him in a few year’s time, once he’s proven himself with the Black Cats. On the flip-side, if he struggles at the Stadium of Light, we will obviously steer well clear of him.
