Sky Sports have performed a U-turn over breaking news on the future of David Moyes at West Ham amid Celtic links.

Speculation linking West Ham boss David Moyes with his boyhood club Celtic has resurfaced in recent days.

Talk of serious Hoops interest in their former player has intensified since Ange Postecoglou’s departure for West Ham’s rivals Spurs.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of West Ham’s Europa Conference League final triumph over Fiorentina, Moyes played down the Celtic talk.

But that has not stopped the claims and counter claims about the Scot and whether he would be staying at West Ham for at least the last year of his contract.

Speaking since the final, Hammers majority owner David Sullivan made it clear Moyes will be West Ham manager next season – as long as he wants to be.

The caveat ‘if he wants to remain’ has fanned the flames of speculation that the Hammers boss could decide to walk away on a high amid the links to Celtic.

It was reported earlier this week that not only will Moyes be rejecting Celtic to stay at West Ham, he will be having an even bigger say in transfers too.

A reporter close to Sullivan then claimed that Moyes could decide to resign, painting an uncertain picture over his immediate future.

It was reported on Friday that Moyes had been called to a crunch meeting with Sullivan over his and the club’s future.

And on Saturday afternoon Sky Sports ran a breaking news story stating Moyes had decided to stay at West Ham next season.

That was big news for Celtic too given their reported interest in the Scot.

But Sky Sports have performed a U-turn over the breaking news on the future of Moyes at West Ham amid the Celtic links.

Emphatic Moyes statement was changed

The breaking news story ‘Moyes stays’ was removed and replaced with a story headlined ‘Moyes expected to stay on’ at West Ham at 10.12pm on Saturday.

The original breaking news story was emphatic whereas the article that replaced it suggests there is yet to be official confirmation from the manager over his future.

“David Moyes is expected to stay on as West Ham manager following talks with owner David Sullivan on Friday,” Sky Sports reported on Saturday night.

“Moyes delivered the club’s first trophy in 43 years with a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in Prague on Wednesday and was linked with the vacant Celtic job, but with a year left to run on his contract is likely to stay at the London Stadium.

“The pair discussed summer transfer plans as well as the manager’s future, after Sullivan admitted on Thursday that captain and talisman Declan Rice will be sold this summer.”
