West Ham United are reportedly keen to sign Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Odilon Kossounou in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from The Sun who claim that West Ham are set for a transfer tussle with Leicester for the 22-year-old’s signature.

Hammers boss David Moyes will be very keen to bring a top-class centre-back to the London Stadium in the summer.

Craig Dawson was moved on to Wolves in the January transfer window, and considering the injury issues that Kurt Zouma has on a regular basis, signing a young central defender with supreme talent will be an absolute must this summer.

Dawson, described as ‘incredible’ by Caught Offside was a key player for West Ham. He was a real leader on the pitch, so whoever we sign needs to have a really influential personality.

And it seems as though Moyes has someone specific in mind for the job…

West Ham eyeing summer transfer window swoop for Odilon Kossounou

The Sun claim that the 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender is on the radars of the Hammers and Leicester ahead of the summer.

Interestingly, West Ham had a £1 million loan offer for the talented centre-back rejected on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2022.

It’s little wonder why that paltry offer was rejected!

The 22-year-old would be a truly brilliant signing for West Ham. Not only is he an excellent centre-back but he can also operate at right-back and defensive midfield if need be.

In 27 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen last season, Kossounou averaged one tackle, one interception and 2.2 clearances per game (Who Scored).

During those outings, he made 40.3 passes per match and recorded an impressive completion rate of 82.4% (Who Scored).

As he continues to get older and more experienced, Kossounou is really maturing as a player and is improving with his positional sense and anticipation.

Despite his tender years, he plays with real authority and leadership as well, and that’s absolutely crucial for a young central defender.

Football Talent Scout describe the Ivorian as a ‘crazy talent’.

Standing at 6ft 3in tall, the Leverkusen ace possesses an imposing physique and has all of the physical attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League.

Leverkusen allegedly want around £25 million for the 16-capped Ivory Coast international (The Sun).

And if West Ham sign Odilon Kossounou for that kind of fee in the summer transfer window, I think it would be a great deal for the club.
