West Ham United reportedly now want to sign Lecce captain Morten Hjulmand in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to a report from Calciomercato.it who claim that West Ham are set to battle the likes of Brighton and Leeds for the 23-year-old’s signature.

He will allegedly be available for around €20 million (£17.6 million) in the summer, according to Calciomercato.it.

Replacing Declan Rice will be one of the main priorities for David Moyes before the start of next season, or for whoever is in charge at the London Stadium by then for that matter.
It’s pretty clear that the 24-year-old will be leaving us in the summer and making us stronger with the money that we receive for the Rice sale will be a real challenge.
It seems as though the Hammers have identified someone who could be perfect for the job…
West Ham eyeing summer transfer window swoop for Morten Hjulmand
Calciomercato.it reckon that the Lecce skipper is firmly on the Hammers’ radar.
I think that for £17.6 million, he’ll be a great signing for West Ham. Whether he is good enough to replace Rice is another matter entirely though.
The 23-year-old is an absolute unit. Standing at 6ft 2in tall, he is big and powerful and is a really impressive athlete.

Hjulmand has four assists in 21 games for Lecce so far this season. During those appearances, the Dane have averaged 2.7 tackles, 2.3 interceptions and two clearances per game (Who Scored).
Those are some awfully impressive stats and the 23-year-old would be somewhat of a ‘Moneyball’ signing for the Hammers.
If West Ham manage to sign Morten Hjulmand for just £17.6 million, I think it would be a great deal for the East London outfit.
However, I would like us to go out and sign another top-class central midfielder, someone like Khephren Thuram, in order to adequately replace Rice in the summer transfer window.
