Pointless substitution vs Freiburg was the ultimate insult for one West Ham player

David Moyes made a baffling substitution during the West Ham United vs Freiburg Europa League clash last night.

West Ham manager David Moyes guided his side to a vital Europa League win over Freiburg at the London Stadium yesterday.

Everything went perfectly for the Hammers against the Bundesliga side, but there will be one player waking up this morning thinking, ‘what on earth do I need to do to get more minutes’?

Maxwel Cornet received yet another slap in the face from Moyes last night, after the Scot brought him on in place of Mohammed Kudus in the 88th minute.

The 27-year-old has barely played for West Ham this season – just 119 minutes action in all competitions (Transfermarkt), and he is apparently up for sale in the January transfer window.

Last night’s two-minute cameo appearance was surely the final straw for the Ivorian attacker…

Pointless substitution vs Freiburg the ultimate insult for West Ham player

Cornet was the ideal option to bring off the bench last night. His pace and direct running would have kept Freiburg from pressing us high up the pitch inside the final 20 minutes or so.

However, David Moyes chose to ignore the former Burnley man right up until the 88th minute of the match.

We were 2-0 up and cruising. Why couldn’t Moyes have brought Cornet on to replace Jarrod Bowen with 20 minutes or so still to play in the game?

Instead, the Scot brought on Danny Ings – a player I never want to see wear a West Ham shirt ever again.

It’s just baffling to me how little opportunities the Ivory Coast international has been given by Moyes this season. Why isn’t he getting more chances?

Nobody really knows, and we probably won’t know anything about the situation until the winger leaves the club.

The 89th minute substitute by Moyes during the West Ham vs Freiburg clash last night was the ultimate insult for Cornet. There is no doubt in my mind that the 27-year-old will be off in the summer.
