You won’t believe the fee West Ham are prepared to sell Maxwel Cornet for in January

Maxwel Cornet could be set to leave West Ham United to join Fenerbahce, and you won’t believe how much of a loss we’re prepared to make on him.

West Ham signed Maxwel Cornet from Burnley in the summer of 2022 for around £17.5 million (Sky Sports), and he has endured a disastrous spell at the London Stadium.

Cornet suffered a serious injury last season that kept him out of action for five months, but he’s hardly played for the Hammers this term despite being fully fit, and things went from bad to worse for him on Thursday when he was completely omitted from the squad for our clash with Tottenham.

The Ivory Coast international then received another slap in the face when David Moyes decided to start the unwell Pablo Fornals ahead of him against Fulham on Sunday,

Cornet is clearly not flavour of the month with Moyes, and I fully expect him to leave the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

It seems as though that’s exactly what could happen…

Maxwel Cornet set for West Ham exit

According to a report from Takvim, the 27-year-old has been recommend to Fenerbahce by agents, and the Hammers could sell him for €7-8 million (£6-6.85).

That would represent roughly an £11 million loss for the West Ham owners on their investment in just 17 months.

Listen, I really think Moyes should give him a proper chance – he proved against TSC Backa Topola 12 days ago that he can make a difference for us in the final third.

However, if the Scot isn’t prepared to give him any substantial minutes, then it will be in our best interest as a club to move him on.

That said, I really don’t think we should be selling him for a measly £6 million. This is the problem with Moyes giving him hardly any minutes – his lack of action is tanking his value.

On his day, Maxwel Cornet is a very good player, and he could be really useful to West Ham what with his pace, power and direct running in behind the opposition’s defence. We all saw just how good he can be during his spells with Lyon and Burnley.

Unfortunately for him though, his Hammers career seems to be whimpering out slowly but surely. If Moyes doesn’t start him during the Christmas period having complained about the hectic schedule and player fatigue, then I’ll have no doubts that the Ivorian will be on his way out of the club in January.
