David Moyes makes honest Edson Alvarez admission ahead of Wolves

West Ham United manager David Moyes has been speaking to the press about midfielder Edson Alvarez.

David Moyes brought Edson Alvarez to West Ham from Ajax in the summer for around £34 million, and he has already proven to be the glue that holds this team together.

The 26-year-old was absolutely brilliant for the Hammers against Freiburg last night before leaving the pitch in the second-half due to a suspected hip problem, although he insisted he’ll be ready to face Wolves.

Alvarez does all of the dirty work in the middle of the park for West Ham, and last weekend’s defeat to Fulham highlighted just how lost we are without him marshalling the troops.

Hopefully the Mexico international stays fit for the remainder of the campaign, because the Hammers are going to need him if we are to achieve any kind of success this season.

Considering how good he has been for us this season, Moyes’s latest Alvarez admission was somewhat surprising to hear…

David Moyes makes Edson Alvarez admission

The Scot addressed the media today ahead of our Premier League meeting with Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

And Moyes responded when asked what he’s made of Alvarez so far this season, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“I think he has made a big impression very quickly. He’s helped us to get some big results. He’s settled in quickly. I think he’s still getting used to the Premier League, the intensity and the number of games. Players from abroad, for example, aren’t always used to playing at this time of the year. But he’s doing very well and settled in well.”

That is quite the admission from Moyes. From what I can see, Alvarez is perfectly suited to the physical and intense nature of Premier League football.

The 26-year-old is an absolute warrior, and he makes us tick when sitting at the base of our central midfield.

Edson Alvarez may not be flashy, but he is one of the most important players David Moyes has at his disposal at the London Stadium.

It is so obvious to see just how vital he is to the way that Moyes wants his team to play. In my opinion, he has settled into life at the London Stadium fantastically well, but Moyes clearly thinks there is still more to come from him.

And that’s a really exciting prospect.
