A journalist has made a shocking claim about Edson Alvarez’s West Ham future after the Kalvin Phillips move.

After West Ham completed the signing of Kalvin Phillips on loan from Man City last week, many believe it will be bad news for Tomas Soucek.

It is widely believed that Soucek will be the one who makes way in West Ham’s starting XI following the arrival of Phillips.

Most observers believe David Moyes will start Phillips alongside the brilliant Edson Alvarez. And it will see James Ward-Prowse ahead of them in a new-look Hammers midfield.

Journalist makes shocking claim about Alvarez

But that won’t be the case according to The Mirror’s James Nursey.

Because the journalist has made a shocking claim about Alvarez’s West Ham future after the Phillips move.

Nursey was among the first to report West Ham had won the race for Phillips – five days before he joined.

Now he claims the England man’s arrival will in fact be bad news for El Machin.

Nursey states that he has been told Moyes has concerns over Alvarez’s temperament.

As a result Phillips will replace the Mexcian fan favourite in West Ham’s first choice XI according to the reporter.

‘Moyes has concerns’

“Expecting Kalvin Phillips’ switch to West Ham to have major impact on Edson Alvarez who is set to find himself on the bench as Moyes has concerns over the midfielder’s temperament following 12 bookings already despite Mexican statistically being a vital player,” Nursey said.

This claim will literally have West Ham fans in utter disbelief.

Alvarez is widely regarded as – arguably – the team’s most important player. And West Ham’s performances and results without him support that argument.

It is unthinkable that El Machin will be the one to make way in West Ham’s midfield.

Fans will be in disbelief

Especially after showcasing that he can also burst forward in recent games before picking up a calf injury.

Hammers supporters will be hoping Nursey has called this one wrong.

But his connections at the club appear to be sound so it is worrying.

Alvarez took to social media over the weekend to reveal he is back fit for the clash with Bournemouth this week.

He was also pictured smashing into Phillips after the pair were put on different teams in training.

If the claim proves correct and Moyes remains manager beyond this season, Alvarez would surely be pushed to look for a move elsewhere in the summer given the huge interest in his services before West Ham signed him.
