Jacob Steinberg has completely contradicted Fabrizio Romano’s bizarre Kalvin Phillips claim

So who are we believing when it comes to who signed Kalvin Phillips then – Jacob Steinberg or Fabrizio Romano?

West Ham United manager David Moyes brought Kalvin Phillips to the London Stadium on loan from Manchester City in the January transfer window. However, Jacob Steinberg and Fabrizio Romano are on two different pages when it comes to who actually wanted the signing out of Moyes and Tim Steidten.

Romano bizarrely claimed last month that it was in fact Steidten who drove the Hammers’ interest in Phillips.

The German then hinted himself that he wanted the 28-year-old at West Ham. However, it seems as though West Ham insider Steinberg has a completely different view on the matter.

The Guardian journalist has claimed that Phillips was 100 per cent a Moyes signing, and that the Scot wasn’t on the same page as Steidten when it came to recruitment in January.

Jacob Steinberg contradicts Fabrizio Romano’s bizarre Kalvin Phillips claim

If truth be told, the deal to bring Phillips to the London Stadium in January had Moyes’s prints all over it.

Romano’s claim that it was in fact Steidten who led the move to bring the England international to West Ham just didn’t ring true at the time.

Steinberg’s claim certainly seems more believable to me, I have to say.

Either way, it doesn’t really matter who actually wanted Phillips at West Ham. The fact of the matter is that the midfielder has endured a really tough start to life at the London Stadium.

The 28-year-old has to turn things around quickly, if he is to go on and be a success with the Hammers during his loan spell.

It really doesn’t matter whether Jacob Steinberg or Fabrizio Romano called it correctly regarding who brought Kalvin Phillips to the London Stadium. All that matters is that the Manchester City owned ace starts to perform for us.
