One of the key players for us this season, and over the past three-and-a-half years for that matter, has been Jarrod Bowen.

Bowen recently signed a new seven year deal with West Ham, with the likes of David Sullivan, David Moyes and Tim Steidten all playing key roles in persuading him to do so.

And Merson has explained exactly why he loves the former Hull City ace so much…

The well-renowned pundit has admitted today that he’s been absolutely blown away by the five-capped England international.

And Merson highlighted Bowen’s goal against Brighton as evidence of his quality, when speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (October 21st, 13:49):

“I think he’s reached another level. I think he dropped off a bit last season but finished it well by scoring in the final. I’m a big fan of his, a really big fan. I think he’s a manager’s dream, for me, this is one of the goals of the season in my opinion (Bowen’s strike away at Brighton earlier this season). If Messi scores this we’d be going absolutely mad about it.”

Jarrod Bowen has been absolutely sensational this season, with five goals and two assists to his name already (Transfermarkt).

He has reached a whole new level entirely this season, and much of that has been down to his sheer determination to get in behind the opposition’s backline.

The challenge for the 26-year-old will be to continue his fine form throughout the entirety of the season.

If he does that, he will definitely be part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024.

We all absolutely love Bowen at West Ham. And Paul Merson’s comments on the West Ham star is proof that he is very highly rated by those outside of the London Stadium as well.
