If Maxwel Cornet doesn’t start for West Ham vs Brentford on Sunday there’s obviously something seriously wrong.

Maxwel Cornet joined West Ham from Burnley on a five-year deal in the summer of 2022 for around £17.5 million (Sky Sports).

The powerful winger has pace in abundance, and he recently highlighted how he is completely different to every other Hammers attacker.

David Moyes eased the Ivorian into action very slowly indeed though, which was strange at there time considering he had been playing Premier League football with Burnley.

And then when Cornet did start a Premier League game against Wolves on October 1st, he suffered a really unique calf injury.

The 26-year-old was out for around five months before returning to training in March. However, he has hardly played since then, with Moyes giving him just 123 minutes of action over the past two months (Transfermarkt).

Moyes has had plenty of chances to give him more action, and what the Scot does tomorrow will be really telling…

The Hammers face the Bees in the Premier League tomorrow afternoon.

However, with West Ham all but safe and the Europa Conference League second-leg against AZ Alkmaar coming up on Thursday, Moyes is expected to make a whole host of changes to his starting lineup.

Surely, Moyes has to give Maxwel Cornet just his second Premier League start of the season for West Ham against Brentford.

The former Burnley man is an ideal candidate to start the match. He needs some proper minutes in his legs – an absolute minimum of 60 in all fairness.

Jarrod Bowen has played a lot of football this season as in desperate need of a rest, so Cornet could slot in on the right in place of the 26-year-old.

I’m desperate to see the Ivory Coast international in action from the start this weekend. Moyes may well be biding his time and being careful with the fleet-footed winger. But there has to be a time when he just throws him in, otherwise he will not be able to make a difference for us at any point this season.

That time should be tomorrow in my opinion. Moyes needs to make sweeping changes on Sunday against Brentford, and Maxwel Cornet coming into the West Ham starting XI should be an absolute no-brainer for the Scot in my mind.
