Ian Darke says David Moyes has taken a huge Man United gamble many West Ham United fans simply won’t agree with.

Legendary football commentator Ian Darke has followed West Ham’s progress closely under former Manchester United boss David Moyes.

Darke has been the commentator on many of West Ham’s European games over the last three seasons.

He has pretty much seen it all in the game over his decades as a top level commentator.

And even he was taken aback by what Hammers boss Moyes has done ahead of the big clash against Man United.

West Ham welcome Manchester United to the London Stadium on Saturday looking to make amends for the woeful 5-1 defeat at Liverpool in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

But Darke says Moyes has taken a huge Man United gamble many West Ham fans won’t agree with.

Many Hammers supporters were already angry at the team selection, performance and post-match comments of Moyes in the cup.

And he has further aggravated those supporters by accusing them of having unrealistic expectations as they gear up to face the Red Devils.

And Darke believes Moyes is simply not in tune with the mindset of West Ham fans given his actions this week.

“Yes West Ham have a more hectic schedule than most and they have to rest top players somewhere,” Darke said on social media.

“But it seems David Moyes decided Man United on Saturday lunchtime was more important than a cup quarter-final at Anfield.

“Not all fans would agree, I suspect.”

Most certainly not judging by the furious reaction to his approach and the ensuing humbling.

Especially after Moyes declared he wanted West Ham to be a cup team ahead of the game.

Man United are out of sorts under Erik ten Hag. So West Ham would have fancied their chances against them at home regardless of the team fielded at Liverpool.

Indeed Moyes ended up bringing on most of the rested stars anyway in what proved to be a completely pointless exercise in rotation.

Now if West Ham do not get a positive result against Man United, Moyes will face another barrage of criticism for his approach to that cup tie.

West Ham’s performance was labelled ‘criminal and embarrassing’ by Jamie Carragher.

Harry Redknapp and his son Jamie called out Moyes for his comments post-match.

Hammers legend Tony Cottee revealed he left a West Ham game early for the first time because he was so disgusted by Moyes’ team selection and tactics.

And celebrity West Ham fan Ray Winstone has savaged Moyes for ‘bottling it’ in the cup.
