Former Hammers boss Harry Redknapp has spoken out on David Moyes’ position at West Ham United and it proves one thing.

Harry Redknapp knows all about the expectations when playing for and managing West Ham.

So he is one of the best qualified to talk on the subject of David Moyes and his future with the Hammers.

The Scot is out of contract at the end of the season and speculation has been rife that West Ham will part ways with him at that time.

Despite West Ham’s much improved Premier League form and qualifying for the last 16 in Europe for a third season running, reports continue to claim Moyes will be departing at the end of the season.

That talk has ramped up again following the 5-1 defeat at Liverpool with a surprise new name in the frame to replace him at the London Stadium.

And it may be a case of no smoke without fire after one former manager delivered his opinion on Sky Sports.

Because former Hammers boss Redknapp has spoken out on Moyes’ position at West Ham United and it proves one thing.

“I have a feeling if they hadn’t have won that trophy (Europa Conference League) when he did win it at the end of last season, his job would have been in jeopardy for sure” Redknapp said.

“I do yea, knowing the club and everything about it and the supporters.

“I don’t think they really appreciated him as much as (everybody else). You know we look at it and think ‘what a great job (he’s done there)’.

“There’s always this underlying feeling with the West Ham fans with David, whether it’s the football or the style of play or whatever.

“Unfair? Definitely, I’m a big fan. But definitely if they hadn’t gone and won that cup I do think there were lots of people who would have thought well maybe it’s time for a change.”

The Scot is said to have come close to the sack on more than one occasion last season.

And is interesting to hear Redknapp’s informed opinion that West Ham’s Europa Conference League win kept Moyes in the job.

Redknapp is well connected in football and at the club.

So it proves that Moyes’ position is very delicate and has been since the dark days of last season.
