Fabrizio Romano has delivered his verdict on West Ham United potentially signing Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips in the summer.

Hammers boss David Moyes was actually linked with a deadline day move to sign the 27-year-old Manchester City midfielder on transfer deadline day (the Sun).

West Ham failed to prise Phillips away from The Etihad and bring him to the London Stadium in the end though, unfortunately.

It wasn’t the first time that the Hammers tried to sign the 25-caped England international either.

West Ham tried to sign Phillips from Leeds in January 2022, and then again in the summer before he eventually joined Man City for around £50 million.

Give Me Sport reckon that the Hammers are ready to try again for the ex-Leeds ace before the start of next season.

It really would be no surprise if we went back in for him in the summer transfer window, especially with Declan Rice expected to leave the club at the end of the season…

Fabrizio Romano delivers Kalvin Phillips to West Ham verdict

The high-profile Italian journalist has his fingers in so many pies when it comes to transfers.

And the West Ham / Kalvin Phillips saga is no different. However, Fabrizio Romano explained how talks are not yet underway:

“West Ham are not working on signing Kalvin Phillips at this stage but we have to see how they will act if or when Declan Rice will leave. We also need to see what Pep Guardiola and Man City will decide on Phillips’ future.”

If Declan Rice is a transfer target for Man City, they will surely use Phillips as a bargaining tool.

The 27-year-old midfielder is far too talented to be sitting on the bench at Manchester City and hardly ever playing.

Kalvin Phillips joining West Ham in the summer transfer window seems to be a move that would suit all parties involved.

It remains to be seen what happens with Declan Rice first though, and whether or not Man City are even in a position to be signing players in the summer!

Personally, I would love to see Phillips at the London Stadium. His history with injuries will obviously be a big red flag for David Moyes though, and it remains to be seen whether or not the Scot makes a third attempt to sign him at the end of the season.
