Reports emerged earlier this week suggesting that West Ham are lining up a move to sign Manchester City ace Kalvin Phillips as a replacement for Declan Rice.
West Ham United have been long time admirers of Kalvin Phillips, and have chased him since the summer of 2021.
In fact, we tried to sign him as recently as deadline day in January according to reports.

The Manchester City midfielder is hardly getting any game-time at all, so a move to join West Ham at the end of this season would certainly make sense.

Whether he can be considered as an adequate replacement for Declan Rice is really debatable in my opinion.
But could Phillips really move to the London Stadium to link up with David Moyes this summer?
Kalvin Phillips a potential Declan Rice replacement
According to TEAMtalk, Hammers boss David Moyes is a big fan of the 25-capped England international, and could try to bring him to East London in the summer.
When Rice inevitably leaves West Ham, getting his replacement 100% spot on will be absolutely vital for us, if we are to make genuine progress as a club.
And in my opinion, Phillips just isn’t that man.
There was a time when I would have absolutely loved to see Kalvin Phillips move to the London Stadium.
However, he has grown increasingly more injury prone over the past two years, and the last thing we need to do is replace Declan Rice with someone who can’t even play 20 Premier League games per season.

Make no mistake about it – a fully fit Kalvin Phillips would make a huge difference to this West Ham team.
The problem with the ex-Leeds ace is that he clearly isn’t physically robust enough for the Premier League. And I would assume that that would be a big red flag for David Moyes, when looking for the perfect Rice replacement.
I really would be shocked if Kalvin Phillips is signed as a direct replacement for Declan Rice.
If he is brought in as well as another top-class, dynamic and robust central midfielder though, I could get on board with that.
