The 24-year-old has really struggled since joining West Ham in the summer, so getting the nod by Roberto Mancini tomorrow night would be a big confidence boost for him.

Reports emerged earlier this week suggesting that Mateo Retegui could take Scamacca’s place in the starting lineup for the clash with England.

However, the outlook for the ex-Sassuolo ace seems to be a lot more positive this morning…

According to Sky Sports Italia, Scamacca is now the favourite to start for the Italians against the Three Lions ahead of the up and coming star Retegui.

A start in Naples is exactly what the 24-year-old needs.

Not only is he desperate for more minutes but after a tough season so far he needs the trust and confidence from his national team manager.

In my opinion, Scamacca is an elite centre-forward. He needs regular game-time at the London Stadium and David Moyes absolutely must set his team up in order to get the best out of the Italian.

That means either playing with two narrow wingers close to Scamacca or starting either Danny Ings or Michail Antonio alongside him.

It will be interesting to see how Mancini sets up his team, if the Hammers hitman does indeed start tomorrow night.

The Italy vs England EURO 2024 qualifier is an eagerly anticipated one for many different reasons.

And for the West Ham fans, one of those will be to watch Scamacca in action. Lets’s hope that the 24-year-old gets the nod.
