Joe Cole absolutely slaughtered West Ham United’s back four after our clash with Crystal Palace this afternoon.
West Ham were all over the place defensively at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace today, especially inside the first-half, and Joe Cole let them have it during the half-time break.
David Moyes would have been pulling his hair out on the sidelines after witnessing some of the Hammers’ defending.

The back four really were at sixes and sevens, and the Crystal Palace players punished them accordingly.
The worst goal that West Ham conceded from a poor defending perspective was Palace’s second – scored by Jordan Ayew.
Vladimir Coufal, Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Emerson Palmieri were all over the place, and Joe Cole ripped into them during the game…
Joe Cole rips into four West Ham players
The former Hammer was a guest in the BT Sport studio today.
And Cole highlighted just how poorly the West Ham players defended in the build up to Jordan Ayew’s goal for Palace (Saturday April 29th, 1:44pm):

“I want to touch on this from the back four, David Moyes will be furious. They’ve got to get up and nick five yards. Coufal is so obsessed with Zaha, and it all gets so disjointed. Really poor defending.”
Cole has got this one spot on.
If you watched our back four when Palace had the ball, they really were all over the place. There is absolutely no cohesion in our defending at the moment. It never seems like we hold a horizontal line. There are always some players pushing up, whilst others hold their positions.
That must stem from poor coaching. Or maybe the players just aren’t good enough? Something’s not right at West Ham this season. There are so many problems, and without being too overreactive, I strongly feel like the club is crying out for change from top to bottom.
The defending for the Ayew goal today was evidence of just how easy we are to play against at times. And that really doesn’t bode well with a Europa Conference League semi final on the horizon.
