The Evening Standard have brought the West Ham United fans back down to earth with a big claim about Arsenal linked Declan Rice.

Declan Rice has been heavily linked with an exit from West Ham in the summer transfer window, with Arsenal one of the leading candidates for his signature.

It has been claimed that Dec is excited at the prospect of joining the Gunners at the end of this season.

Most West Ham fans have already made peace with the fact that Rice will be leaving this summer. But could the unthinkable happen and Dec actually stay in East London for at least one more campaign?

Gary Neville recently suggested that Rice may well end up staying at the London Stadium for at least one more season.

And then Rice’s comments after we beat Gent 4-1 on Thursday night raised some eyebrows amongst the Hammers fanbase, as quoted via WHUFC.com:

“To be captain of West Ham at 24, I don’t think you get many bigger privileges. So long may it continue and let’s try and have a strong end to the season.”

The West Ham fans sung Rice’s name throughout the entire game during our 4-0 win over Bournemouth yesterday afternoon.

And there is a feeling swirling around the club that perhaps he could give us one more year.

However, it seems as though the 24-year-old England international will not be staying. Well, that’s what the Evening Standard think anyway.

The newspaper suggest that Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City all want to sign Declan Rice, and it’s ‘unlikely’ that he will remain with West Ham.

If David Moyes somehow manages to keep Rice at the London Stadium beyond the end of the summer transfer window, it would be absolutely huge for the club.

However, I really do feel like we’ve only got five or six weeks left of seeing Dec in a West Ham shirt. Let’s hope that I’m wrong.
