West Ham United play host to Manchester United at the London Stadium in the Premier League tomorrow.
Manchester United currently sit one point and two places above us in the Premier League table, and West Ham can jump as high as sixth with a win against the Red Devils, for a few hours at least.
Hammers boss David Moyes has put himself under real pressure to get a win against Man United, after his pathetic team selection for the Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool on Wednesday night, where he made six changes.
The West Ham second string clearly aren’t good enough, and Moyes needs to make at least six new signings if we are to remain competitive on all fronts over the next few years or so.
One of the players who looked well past his best on Wednesday was Angelo Ogbonna. He has been a great servant for the Hammers, but his time playing at the highest level has come to an end, and we desperately need Nayef Aguerd back in the team.
Ogbonna has no pace whatsoever – his legs have clearly gone completely and he will get ripped apart time and time again if he plays in the Premier League at all anymore. Getting Aguerd back as soon as possible will be crucial for us.
The Morocco international missed the clash with Liverpool due to illness, but when will he be back playing?
Moyes makes Aguerd admission ahead of West Ham vs Manchester United
The Hammers manager addressed the media during his pre-match press conference yesterday afternoon.
And Moyes responded when asked whether Aguerd will be back to face Man United tomorrow, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“Nayef Aguerd, I’ve seen today. He’s looking a bit better but I don’t know if he’s completely better. Even after the game last night we had a few players again feeling unwell, so they’ll need to be monitored over the next couple of days.”
Let’s have it right, Aguerd has been absolutely woeful at times this season, namely with his performances against Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton, Brentford and Fulham.
However, it must be said, we look so much worse as a team when he doesn’t play, because we lack any kind of pace whatsoever.
Without the Moroccan it’s impossible for the Hammers to push up the pitch and play a high line, meaning that we have to sit back in a low block all game.
West Ham desperately need Nayef Aguerd back to full fitness for tomorrow’s clash with Manchester United, and the comments from David Moyes yesterday suggest that he is certainly feeling better than he was earlier this week.
