The 6 signings West Ham United need to make after the appalling performance against Liverpool, and subsequent 5-1 hammering.

West Ham were truly awful against Liverpool at Anfield in the Carabao Cup last night, and David Moyes must shoulder a lot of the blame after the defeatist starting XI that he named.

After last night’s showing, it’s clear to see that the Hammers boss needs to get rid of so much deadwood, and replace them with proper players who can push for a starting spot.

The starting 11 players and maybe two substitutes are very strong indeed. However, outside of those players, the options available to Moyes quite simply aren’t good enough.

That’s Moyes’s own fault. He will have been manager at the London Stadium for four years next week, so this squad is unquestionably his and nobody else’s.

So what does the Scot have to do, in order to take this group of players to another level entirely?

6 new signings West Ham need to make

Pablo Fornals, Said Benrahma, Ben Johnson, Thilo Kehrer, Maxwel Cornet, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell will surely all be moved on over the course of the next two transfer windows.

Each and every one of those names mentioned above have been awful every single time they’ve stepped on the pitch this season, and last night was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I believe that Moyes needs to sign a new left-back, right-back, left-sided centre-back, defensive midfielder, left winger and a centre-forward by the time the 2024/25 season begins.

Vladimir Coufal has been very good this year but he needs some proper competition, whilst the same can be said for Emerson Palmieri at left-back.

With Ogbonna clearly done at the very highest level, a new left-sided centre-back is needed to provide cover and competition for Nayef Aguerd.

Edson Alvarez has proven to be a great signing but Moyes literally has nobody to come in and replace the Mexican when he’s injured or suspended, so the addition of a new ‘no.6’ would be very useful indeed.

We’re fairly well-stocked in the right wing department with Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus both comfortable playing there, but the same cannot be said for the left wing.

A new left-sided attacker, preferably one with pace, is much needed this winter.

Finally, we come to the new striker. It’s so obvious to see that Moyes needs to bring a proven centre-forward to the London Stadium. Michail Antonio has been absolutely woeful this season, with only two goals to his name, whilst Danny Ings is still yet to score (Transfermarkt)!

As a bare minimum, West Ham need to make the 6 signings mentioned above. Whether Moyes and the owners agree with that notion remains to be seen though.
