The traveling 6,000 West Ham United fans were in typically good humoured spirits up at Anfield for our clash with Liverpool last night, and what they sang to Darwin Nunez was absolutely brilliant.

We were thrashed 5-1 by Liverpool at Anfield in the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash last night, but the West Ham fans still found time for a bit of humour, with a light-hearted dig at Darwin Nunez.

Hammers boss David Moyes fielded a weakened team, so it was no surprise that Liverpool ripped us apart, although the goal-shy Nunez still couldn’t find the back of the net.

Interestingly enough, West Ham tried to sign the 23-year-old Uruguayan before he eventually moved to Anfield in the summer of 2022 for around £85 million (Sky Sports).

Nunez has frustrated the Liverpool fans more than he’s thrilled them so far during his time on Merseyside, with 22 goals in 67 games to his name (Transfermarkt) – not the return you’d expect from an £85 million striker!

That’s now 11 games in a row that he has failed to score for the Reds (Soccerbase), and the Hammers fans aimed a fantastic chant at the South American last night…

What West Ham fans sang to Darwin Nunez

As the Liverpool striker recorded another blank in front of goal, the Hammers fans were having some fun in the Anfield Road end, despite the disaster that was unfolding on the pitch.

It was a total no-show from the West Ham players against the Reds – an embarrassment of a performance after a completely unacceptable team selection from Moyes.

However, despite the depressing viewing on show for the away end, the Hammers fans aimed a chant at Nunez that would surely have put a smile on every face in the Anfield Road stand, and even the striker himself may have had a chuckle:

Andy Carroll played for West Ham for seven years before he left to join Newcastle on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.

He was a hugely popular figure at the London Stadium, and was just as well-known for his long ponytail and antics off the pitch as he was for his goals and performances on the field of play.

He has a penchant for the odd unbelievable strike, and always had incredible quality. However, his career was ravaged by injuries and he never reached the heights that he could have reached, had he remained injury free.

What West Ham fans sang to Darwin Nunez was absolutely brilliant last night. It was clearly tongue in cheek and a good bit of banter that didn’t overstep the mark. Well played Hammers fans on what was a really bad night for everyone involved with the club.
