West Ham United apparently want to sign a top-class left-back from one of our London rivals in January.
According to a report from The Sun’s Alan Nixon, West Ham want to sign a new left-back in the January transfer window.
Hammers boss David Moyes currently has Emerson Palmieri as his first choice left-back, and the Italy international has been sensational this season.
However, the fact that Aaron Cresswell is the 29-year-old’s backup is a huge concern for West Ham, and Moyes is trying to address that by bringing Chelsea ace Ian Maatsen to the London Stadium, according to Nixon.
The 21-year-old has been on the Hammers’ radar since the summer, and he recently admitted that he may have to leave Stamford Bridge in order to get more regular first-team football.
So could the London Stadium be his new home. It seems like there’s a chance…

West Ham want to sign left-back in January
Maatsen is a target for West Ham this winter it seems, and what an incredible signing he’d be.
I would absolutely love the young Dutchman to move across London to join the Hammers in the January window.
The 21-year-old Chelsea left-back would provide proper competition and cover for Emerson, and it goes without saying that he’d be a huge upgrade on Cresswell.
The Athletic claim that Blues defender Ian Maatsen could be available for just £20 million this winter, and that would represent fantastic value for West Ham in my opinion.
He possesses pace in abundance, is a brilliant tackler and has the energy and stamina required to play the wing-back role if need be as well.
The Chelsea youngster possesses everything that a modern day full-back should have, and the competition that he would provide for Emerson would take us to a new level entirely in my opinion.
If West Ham really do want to sign a new left-back in January, then Maatsen is probably the best that we could get, and the really exciting thing is that he has plenty of levels still yet to reach.
