West Ham bench-warmer linked with January Barcelona move as La Liga giants target shock swoop

One West Ham United player is reportedly a shock January transfer window target for La Liga giants Barcelona.

Barcelona apparently have a really surprise January transfer window target in mind, and not only does he play for West Ham, but he can’t even get into our starting lineup right now!

Hammers boss David Moyes definitely needs to sign one or two players this winter, but he could be set to lose at least one of his current crop as well.

Apparently, Pablo Fornals is a shock target for Barcelona, according to a report from football journalist Bruno Alemany, as Xavi hunts for a replacement for Gavi.

Fornals, 27, has been really poor recently but in truth, he has hardly featured for West Ham over the past 14 months, and he has already been linked with a January exit.

It’s little wonder why he doesn’t have any rhythm right now, and it would be no surprise at all if he leaves the club next month.

The Hammers’ recently took up an option to extend his deal for another 12 months, but that was clearly just to maintain his value. And now the Spaniard could be set for a return to his homeland…

Barcelona target Pablo Fornals in January

The former Villarreal man could be set for a return to Spain with Barcelona eyeing a short-term Gavi replacement.

I think that an exit for Fornals this winter will be the ideal outcome for all parties involved.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been given just 235 Premier League minutes by Moyes this season (Transfermarkt), and he has regressed badly.

Whenever Moyes does give him a chance, he plays him out wide on the left – a position that renders him completely redundant due to his lack of pace and power.

Pablo Fornals definitely needs a fresh start away from West Ham, if he is to have any chance whatsoever of forcing his way into the Spain squad for Euro 2024 in the summer.

The Spaniard leaving this winter is expected, but the fact that Barcelona have him in mind as a January transfer window target really is a huge surprise.
