David Moyes failed to save West Ham from relegation to the Championship as Everton lost 1-0 to Tottenham.

Even though the Hammers won 3-0 at home to Leeds, it was too little too late for their Premier League survival.

West Ham needed Moyes to do them a massive favour by beating Spurs on the final day, but Everton never came close.

The 1-0 scoreline does not reflect how poorly the Toffees played from start to finish at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Moyes has now reacted to West Ham’s heartbreaking relegation after 14 seasons in the Premier League.

Where was that all season? 🤦‍♂️ Tell us how you feel about West Ham’s 3-0 win vs Leeds…

David Moyes responds after Everton fail to save West Ham from relegation

Moyes admitted before Everton’s final-day game against Spurs that he wanted to keep West Ham in the Premier League.

He said, “Look, I’d love to keep West Ham in the league if I can do… We’ve (Everton) got to try and finish as high as we possibly can, but yeah, I really do hope that West Ham stay up.”

This gave Hammers supporters some much-needed optimism that Everton would put in a spirited performance.

However, there were still some concerns about the Toffees’ motivation to win the game, as they could not finish in the European places.

Relegation confirmed – where do West Ham go from here?

West Ham United Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo shows dejection after West Ham United's relegation to the Sky Bet Championship is confirmed following the Premier League match between West Ham United and Leeds United at London Stadium on May 24, 2026 in London, England.

Unfortunately, Moyes’ side did nothing to prove the doubters wrong by putting in a terrible performance from start to finish.

The Scotsman was clearly disappointed that his team could not prevent West Ham from being relegated.

“I’m really sad for them because there are a lot of great people who work behind the scenes there,” he told BBC Match of the Day.

“A long part of the season, we weren’t sure if it was Nottingham Forest, West Ham or Tottenham – I thought all three were too strong to go down.”

It would be overly harsh to blame Moyes for West Ham’s relegation when they had 38 games to control their own destiny.

However, the former manager has missed an enormous opportunity to enhance his reputation at the London Stadium.

While West Ham supporters are currently divided on Moyes’ legacy, they would all love him if he had beaten Spurs.
