David Moyes has to completely change his system without Michail Antonio, so the Gianluca Scamacca signing just seems utterly bizarre.
The West Ham United manager signed the 24-year-old from Sassuolo in the summer transfer window for around £35 million (Sky Sports).

However, things haven’t gone to plan for Scamacca at the London Stadium so far, and he has really struggled to establish himself with West Ham.

In my opinion, it’s little wonder why Scamacca has struggled for the Hammers. Firstly, Moyes eased him into action far too slowly, and that prevented him from building any kind of confidence up.
Strikers thrive off their goal record, so 15 minutes here and there really didn’t help the Italian one little bit. Secondly, he is not someone who can play up top on his own. Far too often this season he has been completely isolated on his own through the middle.
And that makes the fact that Moyes signed him in the first place completely baffling in my eyes…
Moyes has to change things when Scamacca plays instead of Antonio
When Michail Antonio doesn’t start, the Scot should be changing his entire system.
The 32-year-old forward runs the channels, keeps the opposing centre-backs busy with his physicality and is always looking to run in behind.

Meanwhile, Scamacca is not that kind of striker at all. So why on earth didn’t Moyes sign a striker who fits his system?
It’s no surprise to me that the Italian is struggling so badly in East London. During his time with Sassuolo, he played alongside Giacomo Raspadori and flourished.
If Moyes persists with playing one striker through the middle, Scamacca will never succeed in the claret and blue, much like Sebastien Haller before him.
Hopefully Moyes mixes things up when Antonio doesn’t play and plays Danny Ings up top alongside Scamacca. Now that really would be interesting to see.
