A Celtic journalist says West Ham will be signing a born entertainer as a move for Jota ‘edges closer’ according to reports.

West Ham are being heavily linked with a move for ex Celtic attacker Jota before the January transfer window closes.

Jota was sold to Saudi club Al-Ittihad by Celtic but has not been included in their squad due to rules on overseas players. That’s despite being on a reported £200k per week.

With Said Benrahma set to depart West Ham and Pablo Fornals and Maxwel Cornet up for sale too, the Hammers have been linked with a loan move for the Portuguese ace.

According to talkSPORT West Ham are emerging as the favourites to sign the Portuguese attacker and are closing in on a deal.

Move ‘edges closer’ for born entertainer Jota

It comes after the 24-year-old endured a tough time out in Saudi Arabia since joining Al-Ittihad from Celtic for around £25million back in July.

However, his spell with Celtic before his switch to Saudi was evidence of his undeniable quality.

But don’t take our word for it.

Hammers News has spoken to Hoops expert Sean Markus Clifford of 67 Hail Hail about what fans can expect if they do snare their former star.

‘Absolutely loved’

“His main strengths are creativity, ability to beat a man and has great technique, crossing was very good and his skillful nature sort of negates his lack of elite level pace,” Clifford told Hammers News.

“He was absolutely loved at Celtic and the exact type of entertaining player that fans love to have at the club, also built a strong relationship with the fanbase and immersed himself in the club.

“He’d definitely be able to offer something different at West Ham and I think he could cut it in the Premier League for sure.

“It was a surprise he didn’t move to the Premier League in the summer but the finances on offer in Saudi were too good to turn down. All in all he’d be a smart bit of business by Moyes, a loan with an option to buy would probably be a good move for all parties.”

Is it just me or does Jota sound like a certain former Celtic and West Ham hero – Paolo Di Canio?

If he proves to be even half the player Paolo was, then it will be a fantastic signing for the Hammers.
